We are so pleased to introduce ourselves and get to know you a little better. First, I want to let you know some information about me and how Transitions Dental Company was formed. I went to IU school of Dentistry and graduated in 1999. I enjoyed dental school, but was really excited to get out on my own and serve all of my future patients with the best care possible. I signed on with a large corporate dental company – who guaranteed my salary and provided some real security after dental school. That experience was very helpful in teaching me not only how to be a great dentist but also how to run a business. After a few years I wanted to purchase that practice, which I had started from scratch, obtaining my dream of owning my own private practice. Unfortunately for me, purchasing practices was not part of their business model.
That is when my wife and I started to formulate a clear and concise program of patient care – now called the Moments of Truth. We relocated our family to West Lafayette and started LifeSmiles Dentistry. This practice was doing an average of around $800 - $1000 per day. Within six months of applying our system we started to see $4000 - $5000 days, then $7500 days and more. Patients loved the preeminent dentistry that we provided and soon we had to stop all marketing initiatives to slow our patient demand. In a few short years I took a practice that was barely grossing $300,000/year to over $1,000,000. In 2009 LifeSmiles Dentistry produced $1.7 million dollars; clearly our systems are well received by our patients producing phenomenal results. I realized that patients needed and more importantly deserved preeminent care. That includes having a permanent doctor to help care for them and guide them on the path of oral health. I wanted to start a company that focused on this kind of care – a permanent dentist that delivers preeminent dental care. I knew that traditional corporate dentistry delivered good care – but it was time to take it to the next level!
With an over whelming patient response I began formulating a company that would produce the same system of patient care and duplicate it around the state. In 2005, Karri and I partnered with Brad & Penny Meldrum to form Transitions Dental Company. Specifically Brad was to help found and organize the company – especially in the areas of doctor recruitment, new practice acquisitions, legal and finances. Karri also helped to found the company and organized the management structure, human recourses, marketing, training and IT. Our company was founded on a very special principle – 100% Doctor Ownership. When a doctor owns his own practice, he takes extra special care of those patients. Why? They are actually the doctors’ patients. Doctor ownership - ensures continuity of patient care and preeminent dentistry. Patients don’t like to have a new doctor in their home practice every few months. We help ensure doctor continuity with amazing pay and doctor acquisition possibilities.
